Paella Cooking Class in Barcelona · El Raval
Let's make
paella
together
A hands-on paella cooking class in El Raval, in small groups. You cook, we guide you step by step, and afterwards you sit down to enjoy the paella you've just made.
Looking for a paella cooking class in Barcelona that isn't a tourist conveyor belt? At Rice to Meet You, in the heart of El Raval, you don't watch someone cook — you make the paella yourself, hands-on, in a small group of no more than 12 people. Over 2.5 hours we guide you step by step, from the sofrito and the DO Valencia Albufera rice to the socarrat at the bottom of the pan. Then everyone sits down together to eat the paella they've just cooked, with a welcome glass of cava, two selected wines and a traditional crema catalana. Run in English and Spanish, every day from Wednesday to Sunday, for €69 per person.
No forced
dynamics here.
Your paella cooking class in Barcelona, step by step
You arrive in El Raval
We're at Carrer de la Lleialtat 16, right in the heart of El Raval. You walk in, leave the city outside, and get ready to enjoy the experience of cooking a paella.
You find the ingredients
Everything laid out on the counter: DO Valencia Albufera rice, squid, prawns, fumet, vegetables. It's exactly what you need for a real paella.
You do the cooking
You cook alone or as a pair, with your own burner. We don't cook for you: we show you how, let you do it, and stay close if you're unsure. Every question is welcome, even the ones you think are too basic. Especially those.
The paella over the fire
This is when the rice changes. The fumet reduces, the sofrito browns, and it starts to smell like what it's about to become. You feel it too: you're not watching someone make a paella. You're making it.
You sit down at the table
You eat the paella yourself, with us and the rest of the group. Twelve people max — we all fit around the table. Before, a glass of cava. During, two selected wines. After, crema catalana.
- All ingredients and utensils
- Step-by-step guidance from our chef
- A welcome glass of cava
- A tapa during the workshop
- Two selected wines
- The paella you cooked
- Traditional Catalan dessert
- And all the recipes
You stay for the sobremesa
When dinner is over, we don't walk you to the door. We stay — the sobremesa is part of the shared experience. No rush. It's time to make new friends.
An authentic paella workshop, made from scratch in El Raval
This isn't a demo. It's a real, hands-on paella workshop where you do the cooking.
We work with DO Valencia Albufera rice, a fumet we prepare in-house, fresh sofrito, squid, prawns and saffron — the same ingredients we'd use for our own table. You'll learn the things that actually make a paella: how to build the sofrito, when to add the fumet, how to read the rice, and how to get the socarrat — the prized golden crust at the base of the pan.
Everything is made by us, here, every day. That slow, careful way of doing things is the whole point: a paella cooking class in Barcelona where the flavour, and the time you take over it, are what you came for.
What people say after the workshop
It was such an amazing experience. Such a good service and the food was really good. A 10/10 evening.
Rice to Meet You stands out as one of the most genuine, educational, and delicious paella experiences I've had. Located at Carrer de la Lleialtat 16 in El Raval, the restaurant works with a simple idea: carefully sourced ingredients, a relaxed atmosphere, and an interactive experience that goes far beyond just sitting down to eat.
Meravigliosa sorpresa. Un'ottima paella che vedi cucinare davanti a te. Ambiente semplice e informale, ma allegro. Ottima anche la crema catalana finale. Prezzi onesti. Da provare.
A paella cooking class for couples, groups, families — or solo
For couples. Book together, share a burner, and cook one paella between the two of you — a hands-on date in El Raval that beats another restaurant dinner.
For groups of friends & families. Small groups up to 12. You cook in teams, each with your own burner, and share the table afterwards. A great thing to do in Barcelona with people you like.
Solo travellers. Book solo and cook your own paella on your own burner — and since the table is shared, it's one of the easiest ways to meet other people from around the world during the class.
As a gift. You're not giving an object, you're giving a few hours making paella together in the heart of Barcelona.

Your paella class in English (and Spanish)
The workshop runs in English and Spanish, so international visitors and local guests feel equally at home. We also offer audiovisual support in French, Italian, German and Chinese. You'll never be lost in translation while you cook — every step is explained clearly, and every question is welcome.
